Pentaho - 4 : Administration Console and Datasource Setup
In my last post we connected MySQL database to the BI server. But if you are using your own database for analysis and report generation, then you need to do something more than creating your database and connecting Pentaho to MySQL. What you need to do more is that to use Administration Console to set "Datasource" connections. Let's see how to do that. It is very easy.
Open new terminal and type
Log in as admin and password is password.
In the above figure you can see that "Server Status" is not shown with a red cross mark. If you have correctly connected Pentaho to MySQL then your Admin Console should also be like this. Otherwise, Server Status will be shown with a red mark.
Further, you can create different users of your own using this tab in Admin Console. After crating users and assigning roles to them you will be able to restrict who can view, edit your reports in Pentaho. To do that you will have to change the properties of the relevant report at the Pentaho user console.
Following screen captures show the properties you need to add if you are creating our own datasource in order to use with Pentaho. Fill in your Datasource appropriately.
I am going to wrap up my posts on 'Installing Pentaho in Ubuntu' here. But as I told you in the first introductory post, there are other tools that we can integrate with Pentaho BI server. (Actually if you use Pentaho Enterprise Edition then these tools come integrated as features of Pentaho BI Server itself). I will try to post on how to integrate/install them in Ubuntu in the future posts. But if you have any questions regarding them or these posts ask me by commenting. I will try my best to help you.

Administration Console - Advanced tab |
Note: There is also Administration page for Pentaho as well. You can use that page to assign different users to your pentaho solution folders of yours. After log in to
Pentaho user Console (BI platform) with administration privileges, it is
possible to log in to administration home page using the URL 'http://localhost:8080/pentaho/Admin'.

Is it start pec or pac ?? i am not able to access my pentaho admin console using the admin and password credentials. Please can u help me with this ?? Thanks in advance..
ReplyDeleteIt is start-pac.sh. You can view that file by browsing to "administration-console" folder in your Pentaho folder. And yes, the default user name is "admin" and password is "password". Are you sure that you have not manually changed it at some point?
